Brookshire and Katy residents with city water had continuous service during freezing weather. The 75,000 and 100,000 gallon storage tanks carried them through power outages and reduced frozen pipe costs. Many drained pipes after drawing water or if plumbing was in poor order.
One of the busiest men in the country during the icy spell was Herman Meyers, the Houston Lighting and Power Co. serviceman. He worked day and night repairing lines as fast as the ice could be cleared, continuing through Tuesday night. Brookshire and Katy enjoyed electric power most of the time.
Senator Strauss writes to the people of the 15th district reporting progress in the Legislature. He notes a draft of appropriation bills three to four months ahead, aimed at about ten million dollars in state expenditure cuts, and highlights tax structure review called for by Governor Shiver. He mentions 94 Senate measures, including a 72,000 pound truck limit increase and a drivers responsibility law requiring insurance or ability to pay up to ten thousand dollars.
Mrs. Ora Trettin Mrs. R C Waldrip and Mrs W D Bains Sr finished an extension course from the University of Houston. They attended Rosenberg classes one night weekly for eighteen weeks and plan to enroll in another course next semester.

William Seaborn Wright 84 died at his Brookshire home January 24. Funeral services were held January 26 at 2 p.m. at Waller Cemetery with Rev. G Z Sadler officiating. Schmidt Funeral Home directed. He was born October 21, 1867 in Weimar Texas and lived in Brookshire 77 years. Survived by wife Mary and two sons William Roy and Ray B Wright, 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, along with nieces and nephews.
superintendents James E Taylor of Katy and R C Waldrip of Brookshire said schools would be open Monday unless another spell of weather closed them.

A program of the good ole days titled The Family Album drawn by the B P W Clubs of Sealy and Brookshire played Friday night at Brookshire School. Dee Brune led as MC with characters in era garb and music of the period. Proceeds earmarked for a Brookshire Recreation Hall.
Mr and Mrs Max Wander from Brookshire previewed the latest 1951 spring and summer fashions in Dallas as about 6000 fashion merchants packed Dallas hotels for the American Fashion Association advance Dealers from 17 states and two foreign countries viewed 1050 new clothing lines Henry W Stanley manager of the association said many designers and experts were on hand to discuss 1951 summer trends The display emphasized blue and fresh paint colors for next summer
Reports say many people fell on ice with injuries including broken bones. Mrs. Johnny Tatum broke an elbow, Mrs. George Harrison and Mrs. Frank Wells each suffered shoulder fractures, David Agopian fractured shoulders, and L. D. Brown broke an arm in his Katy yard.
A brutal cold snap from Monday to Thursday brought sleet and ice that snapped electric and telephone lines, froze roads, and halted travel. The seven month drought left cattle rundown, with ranchers like Hudgens Cardiff and Morrison reporting cow and calf losses to pneumonia as feed shortages worsened.
At Pattison Gym a county meeting honored 4 H members for 1950 work. Mrs. Jame Fletcher and Jo dy McCarty presented medals and awards to Pattison student Flen McGee for achievement Betty Zellmer for leadership and Jo Ann Jones for dressmaking.
Public invited to attend the Queen of Hearts coronation in Katy High School Auditorium on Monday February 12 at 8 pm. Admission is free. The senior class selects the queen Miss Zoellen Bartlett and her king Stan Pace for the event.
The March of Dimes drive scheduled for Tuesday night from 7 to 8 in Katy was postponed due to ice and sleet. Chairs Mr and Mrs Lainer Hendry request donations by mail or at Ann's Tower and Gift Shop. House to house solicitors will resume the drive when weather permits.
Mr and Mrs Steve Haczynski visited Pvt Paul Haczynski in San Antonio where he is stationed now in Louisiana. John Mitchell age 16 finished high school and began studies at Schriner Institute Kerrville this week.
