Mother Dies Before Son's Funeral in Tennessee
Funeral services for Mrs. Harriet Chetham-Strode were held December 23 in Houston after her death on December 22. Her son Dr. Alfred Chetham-Strode Jr. died from a brain hemorrhage the day before, as his mother planned to travel to Oak Ridge, Tennessee to be by his bedside. Pallholders were Houston Lighting & Power co workers. survivors include her husband two daughters and four grandchildren.

Graveside services for Dr. Alfred Chetham-Strode Jr. 87 were held Tuesday at Memorial Oaks Cemetery with Father Rolling officiating. He died December 23 at Oak Ridge Tennessee after a service at St Stephens Episcopal Church. Survived by wife Patsy Ruth, son David, daughter Anne of Oak Ridge, Tenn., father Alfred of Houston, two sisters, and mother Harriet Rowntree Chetham-Strode preceded him in death one day earlier. Local arrangements by Schmidt Funeral Home. He was a nuclear physicist in atomic research.

The VFW Post 2196 and Ladies Auxiliary of Addicks organized a Christmas train tour delivering toys fruit and candy to a needy family the VA Hospital Dyer Home for Retarded Children and a church program. Santa distributed gifts at each stop and Channel 13 aired a segment. The trip ended with more toy deliveries making for a rewarding Christmas season.
