Next Tuesday January 1 1957 is New Year’s Day and in observance local businesses will close. Shopping must be done in accordance with the holiday closure rules of the community.

The First Baptist Church of Katy announces a New Year's Watch Night sponsored by the Training men. Rev A C Liefer and Rev J A Haley are named as pastors. New Year's Eve services start 7 30 PM with a social gathering until midnight. New Year's Day services planned for 9 30 AM.

Beloved Country Doctor Dr Roland Bing Dies at 70

Dr Roland Edward Bing beloved country doctor of Mona ville and Oakwood died suddenly at about 10 30 p m Saturday night He was 70 and was born in 1886 in Sealy Texas He practiced in Oakwood for 84 years and was named Oakwood Outstanding Citizen in 1948 Funeral services were held December 24 at 10 30 a m in Oakwood with graveside rites at Hempstead Cemetery Survivors include his wife Evelyn three sons Dr Roland Bing of Victoria Dr Arlys Bing of Houston Dr Lyndon Bing of Katy a daughter Elise Allen of Wichita Kansas four grandchildren a brother L B Bing of Pasadena and numerous nieces and nephews He attended Hemstead High School University of Tennessee Medical School and Tulane University for postgraduate work He was a Presbyterian and a member of state and national medical associations.

Emergency Feed Grain Program Extended Here

Walter T. McKay announces extension of the Emergency Feed Grain Program in Washington and Waller Counties. Farmers may file applications through February 15, 1957 for feed grain to carry livestock through March 15, 1967. Roughage program will extend but roughage applications delayed to early January due to financial workups in Washington.

Burglars Hit Three Brookshire Businesses Christmas Eve

Burglars entered Hen nkee's Grocery Avery's Package Store and Rheman Motor during Christmas Eve, taking about 125 dollars in cash. Back doors were pried open, and a few nickels were stolen from the package store. No other items were moved and no clues were found. Deputy Sam Wilson noted similar burglaries in Waller and Hempstead counties.

Multiple Accidents Reported This Week

Patrolman John Vance listed three accidents during the holiday period. A 1954 Pontiac driven by G Anderson rolled five times 314 miles north of Pattison on Farm Road 359 injuring him and causing minor injuries to his wife and daughter. In Katy area a 1957 Studebaker driven by Ale Warren B Jones from Laughlin AFB collided with a Mack truck leaving Jones seriously injured. A third crash west of Brooksire involved R C Crosby with a five mile drive, and Erwin L Hartman swerved to miss a cow near Barker injuring none and causing minor vehicle damage.
