E A Billingsley general manager of four Houston hotels was elected president of the Houston Hotel Assn at the Warwick hotel annual meeting. He succeeds Louis Marchette as board chairman. Other officers named include E Whitkey treasurer and Graham Hall sergeant at arms. Billingsley, a Purple Heart recipient, is a native of Idabel Oklahoma and long worked in Texas hotel management.

The Brookshire School presented the operetta The Isle of Christmas Dreams on December 17 before a large audience. The program drew strong interest from parents and students. Teachers and pupils thank parents for costumes and decorations and express appreciation to Mrs Tsubel Hovseplan for flowers and fruit for the trees.

The Paul Vaughans Near Gas Fumes Tragedy
Mr and Mrs Paul Vaughan and daughter Mary Ruth nearly suffocated by a gas leak they had not detected after switching from butane to natural gas. Mr Vaughan woke around 5 am and called for help then collapsed twice. They were ordered to rest in bed for days as doctors blamed the leak for dreadful headaches.

Albino Rivers Dies at 67 in Brookshire
Albino Rivers, about 67, drops dead Saturday evening in Brookshire. He was buried Sunday in Fal shear cemetery. Rivers, a Mexican, served as manager of M. G. Kelley’s business in Brookshire for over seven years.
