Rice Farmers Use Water Leveling on Cypress Creek Farm
Cypress Creek growers Raymond Borgstedt and Aubrey Chudleigh leveled fields to grow and harvest rice. On Longenbaugh Estate in 1967 they required five levees for 95 acres. Leo Davis of the Houston Soil Conservation Service says water leveling saves water and reduces levee needs, signaling a modern approach. The Houston SCS will assist with planning now.
