The truck movement order was amended after protests by cattlemen and livestock groups. It preserves Sunday movement for livestock, perishable agricultural products, newspapers, and emergency shipments from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. to avoid disrupting the main Texas cattle market on Mondays.

Mrs. Max Wander hosted a Belton reunion on Sunday July 22. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Wander and their daughter Mrs. Perry Robinson and husband, joined in Austin by their daughter Verna visiting the University. Mrs. Wander called it one of her happiest life moments.
Postmaster Haines announced twenty five vacancies for service in the Marine Corps will be filled during August at the Marine Corps Recruiting Station in Dallas. Young men aged 18 to 25 with good character and high school training may apply. application blanks are available at the post office.
Charles Mitchell of Houston visited the Times force in Brookshire this week and met local boys. Herbert Weichman of Houston visited Brookshire relatives. Miss Francis Leake hosted a house party with Mrs. Richard Wood. Sidney Martin and Anton Wirpitz, in Eagle Lake, spent the weekend with their parents. Edward Bemus and family, Geo Harrison and families visited Houston with Sam Harrison. Pete Wilpitz spent weekend with his parents. Ver non Rich and son visited with Mrs. K Harrison. Z H Zacman and Gladys toured Canada and the northeast. Jackie Donald spent a week in Pattison with grandparents. High Bemus and daughters visited last weekend, joined by Mrs. Jim Garrett and Harris. Mrs. Serope Barbarian spent time here.
A teenaged girl lay unconscious on the highway near Addicks, with a drunken escort in a zigzagging car. Traffic halted as many observers feared a wreck or death, but she was not hurt though described as dead drunk. Patrol was summoned and by departure time a crowd waited for authorities.
Brookshire received her first bale of 1939 cotton Saturday July 29. The bale was raised on Ma Wander's farm by Ralph Rodriguez. It was ginned by Rheman Gin Co. and sold to R W Avery for ten cents per pound.
A few days in Houston last week saw Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Muske enjoy a weekend in the city. Mrs. Will Cooper accompanied her daughter, Mrs. D. Matlock, on the trip. The note implies a local buy at home offer with a potential money-back benefit.
