Drilling Gang Struggles to Free Stuck Drill Stem

Last Saturday a drill stem became hung in a nearby oil well under development. Shooters have worked for days trying to lift the gear, but reports say they have not yet succeeded. Mrs. W R McCauley returned from Houston with news that her sister Ora Ford, in a sanitarium there, is progressing well. Prof Jesse Wilson will visit Brookshire to speak to melon growers on marketing this year's crop.

DeWitt Couple Relocate After Short Visit to Kyle Area

Olie DeWitt and former Miss Ruth Woods of Kyle left Wednesday night for Houston where they will reside. DeWitt is connected with a Houston lending bank. Dr J B Siglker of Bellville visited here last Wednesday.

Brookshire Student Celia Taylor Wins District Spelling Title

Celia Mae Taylor of Brookshire Colored School won the Junior Spelling Contest at Hempstead on March 26 and clinched the District meet in Navasota, becoming the District representative to the State Meet. Accompanied by her teacher Mrs J E D Pierson, she earned the district victory after the county win.
