Bea Bawaxy notes first month at Brookhaven Graded School with 421 pupils the largest first month enrollment in school history. Details list grade by grade honor roll names and a new absentee and tardy policy. Also records state cases disposed by Justice J. B. Daughtry and a local clothing theft incident involving Alex Markham Jr. plus Patsy Magee shooting case next hearings.
Whitworth notes report two literary societies formed by Harvey Johnson and Philomathian members. Meetings show enthusiastic turnout and a strong spirit of rivalry, though overall fellowship exists off the field. Miss Kate Felder presides over the new society. Maggie remains unnamed in duties.
The Athletic Club led by Miss Vivian features sixty players with two basketball sets, tennis courts, and croquet on campus. Miss Angelica Marguerite Staffler of Whitworth marries Mr. Andrew Hoffman of New Orleans at St Francis church, with Gen eve Hoff man and Antony Staffler Jr as ushers, followed by reception in their home and a late train departure to New Orleans.
The Governor promotes state cotton in the Delta while 2 500 people hear Mejor Vardaman speak at Oktibbeha County Fair. The Aberdeen Examiner notes a bright Orphanage Gem issue and reports new pre press for The Columbian in Columbia. It also covers a cabin fire in Scooba owned by Col Jas H Dukes.
The Brookhaven Mayor and Aldermen read September minutes and approved a September special meeting. They closed Independence Street between First and Second Streets and opened a 50 foot wide Mill Street donated by local firms. Salaries for city staff were approved and funds shifted to the poorhouse.
The Board of Supervisors uses remaining school fund balances from September 30 to finance building, furnishing and repairs in county and district schools. Distributions to districts and schools include Nola Line, Mt. Pleasant, Union, and many others with varied amounts for anticipated improvements.
Incomplete notes share proverbs about pitfalls, care, reputation, and cheerfulness. A stray line mentions an event titled The Crystal Spr Knights jana Ladies of Beco with 40 pew members on the 7th. A supper at a prominent restaurant was the scene of gathering or ringing.
