Colossal King Cotton statue to greet St Louis World's Fair visitors

Mississippi's exhibit will feature a 50 foot statue titled King Cotton in the Palace of Agriculture. Wax hands and feet with cotton body parts, a throne of cotton bales, lint draperies, and a carpet of cotton cover a six foot pedestal. A life size group shows a black family picking cotton with wax hands and feet. A Mexican wax worker designed the piece to attract attention amid other displays of gins looms and textile processes.

Whitecapping Report Near Lincoln Pike Line

A wave of whitecapping is reported two miles west of Johnson Station on the Lincoln and Pike county line. Farm owner Robinson had fencing torn down, cotton beaten from the field, and corn damaged in a night raid. Across the line in Pike, Jim Williams also faced a similar attack on his property.

Brookhaven Mayor's Court Proceedings Report

The mayor’s court conducted a week of cases with pleas of guilty in multiple offenses including drunkenness gambling and obtaining money under false pretenses with fines ranging from 2.50 to 5.00 dollars plus costs. A burglary case saw McCullough bound over to the circuit court on a 250 dollar bond. The Cherokee street railroad switches case resulted in 50 dollar fines per count, with appeals noted.

First of October Millinery Openings in Brookhaven

Sunny autumn day in Brookhaven showcased fall millinery openings from John McGrath & Sons and others. Hats and souvenirs drew crowds. Italian band from New Orleans provided music while shoppers visited Racket Store and Oliver & Penn's. Many attendees planned to attend church services or Yom Kippur observance, and the day balanced leisure with duties.

McComb City Building Boom Sparks New Projects
