Spectacular execution in Wiesna district April 11
John B. Roberson was hanged today for the murder of William Adair in the county, over twelve years past. A respite of thirty days had been granted. About twelve hundred spectators attended as Roberson, described as a short, fearless man, faced the scaffold. Reverend Mr. Pugh offered a prayer and Roberson spoke briefly, claiming evidence was incomplete and urging that all facts be known before convicting. The drop fell at 12 58, and Dr. Sandlers certified death fourteen minutes later.
