Humble Start Leads to Store Ownership
A young man begins as a janitor after a difficult request and rises to own the store where he started, illustrating the archetypal climb from clerk to proprietor in a single old tale.
It Matters Not Where You Begin Your Ascent
It Matters Not what rung of the ladder you begin your ascent from the thing is to make a beginning start right and hammer away with an inflexible resolution until you achieve the object of your ambition. The extensive trade of the big department store of John McGrath and Sons was not built in a day. It re quired years of persistent effort and lots of hard work. The main point is that more than 20 years ago they started alright and have never deviated from their good old rule one price to all goods marked in plain figures. The trade of this popular mercantile firm increased year after year and now it is recognized as one of the biggest stores in the State. The spring of 1900 finds this up-to-date establishment well equipped with a handsome stock of goods and prospective advances anticipated by their wide-awake buyers.
