The Director of the Mint submitted to Congress a report on 1899 metal production. US gold production reached 1,588,480 fine ounces valued at about $39,945,000, up from the prior year. Silver output was roughly 54.5 million ounces, with coining value around $70,404,645 and a yearly change of about 4.5 million ounces. The total gold deposited in mints during the year totaled £56,217,105. Silver offered to the government was 68,150,437 fine ounces with 87,604,375.75 ounces purchased costing $39,001,540. The director also estimates world gold and silver production for 1890 and 1889 respectively.
