A steam tug H. Coleman boiler explosion near Elliott's Landing seven miles below here killed seven of its crew. Three white men and four Black sailors died except Captain Thompson who survived with severe burns. Part of the pilot house lay 200 yards away. The Coleman belonged to Captain Ulbury McPherson and is a total loss. Rocheport dispatch confirms the crew perished or drowned except one survivor.
