State Treasury Cases summarize Alabama case turmoil and trials

A long report on the State Treasury scandals notes a mistrial in the Bush case, indictments pressed against Balford after he became a state’s witness, and a dismissal of the Stowers indictment for lack of involvement in the $100,000 deal. It recounts the Rush case deadlock and the ongoing probes into Raiford and Stowers, with commentary on alleged improper loans to Jackson banks. The piece criticizes perceived unequal treatment of defendants and hints at broader political implications in Mississippi. It also mentions unrelated local items and a public notice-like aside about social topics and community reactions.
