Fire destroys Norfield saw mill and outbuildings
A large planing mill lumber shed and dry kiln owned by Norwood Butterfield at Norfield were burned down tonight. Eleven railroad freight cars on a side track were also consumed. The saw mill was saved after strenuous efforts. The fire is deemed incendiary, with no specific suspect named. Insurance is likely, but full details were not confirmed. Local reaction calls for punishment of the arsonist.

Damage Suit Epidemic In Hinds County Railroads
The Clarion-Ledger notes a surge of damage suits against railroad companies in Hinds County over the last two months, driven by county rail presence and a rising yearly total. It argues for fair liability while condemning frivolous suits, citing Texas judgments and potential higher travel costs to cover legal costs. The piece also covers Gov. Longino’s illness, park commission plans by Gen. Stephen D. Lee, and local civic notices.
