Terrible Wind and Rain Storm Destroys Crops and Property
A heavy wind and rain storm lashed the region from Sunday night through Monday, with winds near hurricane force and 3 inches of rainfall. Crops, especially corn and cotton, suffered severe damage, fences fallen, and irrigation disrupted. Railroad tracks washed out between Manchac and Frenier, isolating lines along the Gulf Coast and extending likely beyond Brookhaven. The storm will be remembered as a memorable, widespread disaster.
