A local newspaper analyzes a highly unusual canvass mixing incongruous elements and surprising coalitions in governor and Senate races. It notes strange alignments and opposing lines within the campaign as papers split their endorsements across candidates, with regional papers signaling different supports.
Across the state papers favor different candidates for governor and U S Senator. North Mississippi backs Noel for governor and Longino for senator while eastern papers back Cruz for governor and Money for senator. Overall, no unified choice exists and voters remain divided as the canvass continues.
Lincoln County Mississippi will issue twenty thousand dollars in negotiable county jail bonds to fund a new jail. Bonds are $500 each, dated April 6 1903, with four and a half percent interest, payable yearly, secured by full faith of the county. Maturities extend to 1928 with payments at Western National Bank New York City.
The Lincoln County Board of Supervisors approves jail bond issuance of twenty thousand dollars to N. W. Harris & Co. and orders a building committee for the new jail. A special May 2, 1903 election for district No. 5 justice of the peace is authorized to fill the unexpired term.
