Electro-Motive expands and licenses for diesel locomotives
Officials plan a London Ontario plant to absorb Canadian business and will license a European plant from a Swedish company to build diesel electric locomotives. Electro-Motive has produced about one million horsepower for American railroads, with roughly half for freight and the rest for passenger and switch trains. Backlog keeps plants busy into 1950 as railroad demand remains strong. Chicago area employment remains high at about 13,000 across La Grange and far south side plants.
