Voters Decide December Referendum On School Calendar

A referendum seeks a December election to decide whether to keep the current school calendar or extend the term beyond nine months. Illinois code limits the school year to nine months unless a longer calendar is approved, with many districts proposing a one month extension to balance holidays such as Christmas and Easter. The Riverside-Brook High district is among those presenting the question to voters on the same days. The board argues the change benefits children by revitalizing the term layout while maintaining the existing calendar.
