Brookfield Referendum On Council-Manager Government

Brookfield voters face a November 10 referendum to approve the council-manager form of government under a state law. The village, which began using the system in 1947, has cut debt from 738000 to 264000 and aims to run the village as a business unit free from political entanglements. Nearby communities already use the form, including Mt. Vernon Riverside Winnetka and Hinsdale, with Brookfield’s move praised as restoring self-respect and good governance statewide.
