The new northwoods camp near Eleho Wisconsin will baptize its first campers on Sunday August 1 with about 40 scouts and leaders arriving for a week of self sufficient outdoor living. Funeral services for Cyrus L Coolley

Funeral services were held Wednesday in Oakland for Cyrus L Coolley 75 father of Mrs. Kenneth Cates of 9129 Grant Ave. He died July 25 in St Lukes hospital Chicago. Survived by his widow Mrs. Lillian Cooley daughter Mrs Kenneth Cates two grandsons and three great grand children.

Brookfield Building Decline Reported in June 1954

In Brookfield all building activity fell in June 1954 from June 1953. The village total reached 181,270, down from 257,542 a year earlier. May 1954 saw 260,823. Home building also declined with 11 permits in June 1954 valued at 144,442 versus 17 permits at 196,800 in June 1953.

Mr and Mrs George Dacs formerly of Park Avenue now of Berwyn have returned from a 300 mile southward trip. In Florida they visited Mr and Mrs Deutschman and Mr and Mrs William Stewart, former Brookfield residents, and on the return drive stopped at Laurel Mississippi to visit their niece.

St Mary National Berwyn beat Maywood National 8-3 with Berwyn’s Haegerhorst held to a late rally. Dempsey’s Berwyn Format Park edged West Chester 2-0 in a 63 minute thriller. Cicero St Mary American Berwyn won 10-0 behind Kachlik’s near no-hitter with 18 strikeouts. Downers Grove National toppled LaGrange Highlands 4-2 after taking a one-run lead early and holding on.

Tight battle as Baker, Smith drive late rally in loss

In a tight contest, Jeff Baker singled and scored after a wild pitch, tying the game in the seventh. Gene Smith followed with a run producing single, while Gerry Mitchell allowed only one hit. Wagg homered for the other run, and Bob Burdett took the loss as Brockfield beat Westmont 9-2. Holous scattered six hits to hold Westmont to two runs as Brookfield pounded 12 hits, with Ronnié Blake and Goldie Shauntéely driving in key runs.Roger Cardoni made a sparkling catch in right in the sixth.
