Riverside-Brookfield Bulldogs Rally To Top Oak Park In District Action

Riverside-Brookfield capitalized on Oak Park errors to win 3-2 as Bill Bazant and George Tomecek led a 12-hit effort. Tomecek pitched three strong innings with Soderstrom and Bazant finishing. RB improved to six wins and one tie, keeping league title hopes alive ahead of the July 14 first round.

Wealth Conference at Center July 10

The Brookfield Health Center will hold its regular semi monthly Child Health conference for children up to years old at 3837 Ogden Avenue on Thursday July 10 from 1 2 0 to 4 pm. Late Junior Class Rally Yields Narrow Victory Score

June 22 at the Civic Opera House Chicago featured a junior class event with Ranald leading the scoring. Four Berwyn youths fined for nighttime firework disorder near zoo

Four young men from Berwyn faced Magistrate Kanelos after firing fireworks at 10:20 PM on June 27 near the zoo parking area. Brookfield VFW Post 2868 Awards From Carnival Fun

Brookfield Post 2868 Veterans of Foreign Wars announced carnival awards from last week. Winners include Buick George Goodldw of Downers Grove for Television, J Wend for Radio, J E Boughlan for Refrigerator, S Tull for Bendix, Fred Koett for Mangle, Bill Hosna for Outboard motor, James Murrin Jr for Bicycle, Blanche Busck for Fishing tackle, L Kurez for Bowling ball, and Kavanaugh for Dry Cleaning. About 60 workers supported six days of events at the Custer Ogden grounds as Commander Bostrand praised a well run, weather friendly carnival with Koko the clown entertaining children.

Youth Center Team Wins in Maywood

The Youth Center team defeated Maywood 24 to 1 this week led by Appl Hayer Ritzman and Campagna. Appl posted two singles and a double with three runs and two RBIs while Hayer added a triple and a single with three runs and four RBIs. Ritzman contributed a double and two singles with two runs and three RBIs as Campagna hit a home run, his first hit of the season since quitting the softball league.

Avon Cleaners Emerges From Local Pioneers

Emil and Bunny Browne, Riverside Brookfield natives, turned a Grand Boulevard building into Avon Cleaners on January 1, 1947. Their delivery truck became a familiar sight as they built a thriving business and sponsor a strong Edward Feelys American Legion softball team. Lillian Klemp notes the need for quality cleaners at the north end. Emil owns a home at 3712 Morton and has three daughters. Bunny married Rosebelle Corleto last September and lives at 3335 Elm Avenue.

Reverend Rockhoff Recovering in Missouri

The Rev. Oscar A. Rockhoff pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran church is reported recovering at Excelsion Springs Missouri after an operation. A card from Mrs. Rockhoff to the H. H. Freitag Paint company notes his recovery and mentions flood waters of the Missouri and other rivers delaying their return to the village. Pastor Rockhoff underwent surgery at a sanitarium in Excelsion Springs several weeks ago.

Brookfield group names new board members and drive plans

The group announces fall drive plans with ex-officio board member, Rev Wakefield, and H A Peel of Elm. New board members elected include Mrs K K Sloan, J W Wilms, and Harold G Bash. Additional candidates include Mrs P Watson, H A Sadler, Rev George Vulgaris, and Albert Lorr. Wilms is past president of Kiwanis and Brookfield Business Men's Association. The Rev Vulgaris leads Faith Evangelical Lutheran church. Lorr heads St Vincent de Paul Society. A prior officers’ commendation was approved for Rev Wakefield, John Clifton, Mrs George Hofman, and Dan Kulie.
