Incoming president Hartkop and outgoing leader Thorsen praised strong 1947 progress. They cited Lyons Township Regular Republican Women forming a large membership, led by Mrs C H Thomas as president, with officers including Mrs Maurice Hull and Mrs V Winkenweder. Special events included a steak fry on Republican hill and a 400 attendees Christmas party at Acacia Country club.
A new patented duck hunting decoy uses an anchor mooring to bob with waves. The anchored weight makes the wings flap while the body rises and falls. A ball bearing mechanism turns the duck head, simulating natural movement.
Ly ons Township Junior college coach John Kenyon says fencing is safe with proper training and precautions. He notes no injuries in 11 seasons and describes safety gear plus conditioning and round robin practice with 12 squad members and plans to compete with University of Chicago Mundelein college and Amateur Fencing League events. Kenyon trained at University of Chicago Illinois and Brown University and fenced in New England tournaments.

Royal Neighbors Camp members held a Monday night meeting led by Oracle Ann Irons. Plans were finalized for public installations of officers on Thursday night January 29 at Fraternity Hall, with Elizabeth Daharsh to be inducted and her staff of officers to assume duties.
Glass jars and lids need not be sterilized by boiling before canning. When boiling water bath or pressure canning is used, the containers as well as the food are sterilized during processing. Be sure jars and lids are thoroughly clean and to prevent breakage have jars hot when filling them.
The Walther League at St John’s Lutheran hosts the second season of Sunday suppers at 6 p.m. starting January 18 with Dr. Jaroslav Pelikan of Valparaiso University as guest speaker on The Church Looks at the World. Future speakers include Gerhard Schroth and Mrs Henry Gerecke, with Herbert Heydorn in charge of arrangements. Reservations urged.
Fred K. Hoehler, new director of the community fund of Chi CAE, will discuss The Marshall Plan at the La rannch of the American Associate University Women meeting on Monday January 19 at 1 30 PM in Lyons Township High School’s community room. The event is open to the public with invitations extended to Western Springs Hinsdale branches League of Women Voters and Woman’s club. Hoehler recently returned from the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation administration where he directed displaced persons and earlier led the Welfare and Relief division on the North African Economic board in London.
