The Friends of the Litrar will hold their regular meeting on Friday January 1 at 1:30 p.m. in the library. Edith Ballou Higgins will speak she is a graduate of Coertin College and studied writing at Medill School of Journalism. She has won short story and one act play contests and led the Literature committee of the Sixth District of the Illinois Federation of Women's Clubs. Higgins recently completed a term as President of the Friends of American Writers and is a noted reviewer for several clubs in the Chicago area. She will review Kenneth Reber's new Christmas release Lydia Pailey for the local group.

Masonic Rites Held for Frank Melichar

Funeral rites for Frank Melichar age 44 were held Saturday at Mansfield Funeral Home with Riverside Lodge 862 officiating. Cremation followed at Bohemian National Cemetery. A carpenter for Western Electric, he had lived in Brookfield for 30 years and is survived by his widow Bernice and Antoinette Peters.

Passing of Peter Murton At Home December 27

Peter Murton 77 died December 27 at his Ogden Avenue home. Funeral services were held Monday December 9 from a chapel on Madison Avenue with interment in Waldheim Cemetery. A village resident for years he was born in England and owned a general contracting firm. Survived by his widow Rose and a brother William of Phoenix Arizona.

The District 204 board planned a Wednesday night meeting at the high school to open bids on $285,000 in bonds for financing an addition. Excavation has begun in the basement, but building started late due to snow and cold weather.
