Christmas gifts and grain woes shadow Truman era ethic
The piece pillories the Truman administration's handling of Christmas giving within federal ranks and a $7,000,000 government loss from mislaid grain loans. It cites gifts to CCC employees, misappropriated crops, and Brannan's stamp of irony while debating the essence of freedom beyond mere license. Archie Schonemann remarks on freedom as a timeless ideal.
