Local Hero Guy Weir on USS Antietam Near Korea
Lt Gavin Weir of the U S Naval Air Corps serves aboard the USS Antietam with Carrier Task Force 77 off Korea. He flies a Douglas Skyraider in close air support and has just marked his 19 000th landing. A Riverside Brookfield High School graduate, he previously served in World War II flying TBM Avengers and returned to active duty in 1951. He is married to Evelyn Bartlett Weir, with a daughter Lynn Ellen, and they previously lived in Brookfield and Alameda California.

Refiner Pride basketball squad defeated Downers Grove 60 to 45 as Ed Fregan led with 24 points and Bol Bennett added 14. Downers scorers included George Demit 1d and Keistter, with Hiehman also contributing. Deavers led all game in scoring before Refiner Pride surged in the final quarter. Senior Girl Scouts Plan Meeting to Draft Future Plans
The Brookfield Senior Girl Scouts announce a joint meeting at the First Congregational church on Tuesday evening, Dec. 11, from 7 to 9 p.m. Hostesses Troans 2 and 7 will lead the session with discussion of future plans, songs, games, and refreshments. Senior Troop 7 has ornament projects for Martha Washington Home for Crippled Children and plans Christmas entertainment for the children. Senior Troop 6, led by Mrs. T. Soderdahl, visits British Old People's Home every Wednesday to read to residents. Community service is part of each troop's program, with Mrs. J. Ricketts, a Girl Scout adviser from Chicago, visiting to discuss Brookfield activities.

They report storm damage to citrus groves in the Rio Grande valley and a Florida style trip with visits through Texas and Mexico. Surprise Call for 30 Men to Report for Physicals
Draft board No 111 announced a surprise call for 30 men to report December 19 for pre induction physicals. A Selective Service spokesman at Har Tem and Oedenaves said the move likely marks the last call until around January 1.
Roger Nerad Entered in Hotpoint Quarter Century Club
