Conference in Chicago Focuses on Power and Land Advances

R Whitehead of the Engineering Institute of Pittsburgh joined the Ninth Power Conference at Palmer House on March 3. About 2500 engineers and socialists attended the daylong sessions studying power developments and land advancements. William F. Wasey and Richard R. Deupree participated. Hollywood Women Sponsor Card Party

The Hollywood Woman's club card party on Friday March 2 drew modest attendance with dessert served and hours spent in card games. McKinley School Wins Junior High Basketball Title

McKinley school of Bellwood coached by Vernon Hamilton won the final game of the Junior High Basketball tournament sponsored by Gross school last Friday night with a score of 16 to 5. Jefferson of Berwyn earned fourth place, Argo took third, in a four day event that drew over 100 players from Brookfield Beltwood Berwyn River Forest River Grove Argo and Westchester. Argo defeated Lincoln 23 to 12 for the third place game. Referees were W A Shuey and A W Dudley from the Riverside Brookfield high athletic department. tournament manager was Beryl Kelly.

IVC Quarters to Close for Good Friday and Saturday

The Illinois Veterans Commission headquarters in Brookfield will close Friday and Saturday this week. Area manager Anthony Brochmann said staff are busy checking veteran benefit claims before submitting them to the Chicago state office for payment. Bonds must be sold before bonus payments, with first checks expected around late June or early July.

The Nonpartisan group, a longstanding Brookfield community organization, held its pre election meeting at headquarters on Friday March 28. The evening focused on establishing a definite program and included supper with many veterans in attendance.

Riverside Brookfield Tops West Suburban Track Meet

Riverside Brookfield high school topped the West Suburban Conference, scoring 16 points to win the Oak Park invitational. Oak Park led field with 84 points, New Trier 47, Evanston 35, Proviso 19 2/7, Riverside Brookfield 12 1/7, York 11 1/7, Hinsdale 10, LaGrange 8. Neil King of Evanston set a meet pole vault record at 12 feet 9 1/4 inches.
