Doland Wins Champion Ship Cup In Golf Final

Doland of Goodland defeats Victor Borklund of Brook two up with one to play at Hazelden Golf Tournament. After five days of effort both players showed nerves as Doland led early before Borklund rallied. A lengthy finish left Doland three up after the first round and the match swung with bold drives and errors, ending with Doland securing the cup.

The Brook Chautauqua program wows Wednesday with Apollo Trio and an evening by Sunshine Deitrick who urged sacrifices for life’s best outcomes. Thursday features Maj. Joe R. Hanley speaking on The face at the Window and The End of the Rainbow. Friday closes the season with the New England Orchestra.

Mrs. George Allies of Brook Dies After Illness

Mrs George Allies of Brook died after a three year illness. She ate breakfast Thursday morning, then suffered a stroke while retiring with daughter Hazel. She leaves a husband, three daughters Ada Dora Conn Mullen and six sons Arthur Warner George Forest Clarke and Benjamin, plus grandchildren. Funeral at home conducted by Rev Spyder followed by interment in Brook Cemetery.

Chairman Lyons Hosts Mass Indiana Political Meet at Hazelden

Chairman Lawrence E B Lyons of the 10th District hosted a large gathering at Hazelden on Tuesday with district chairmen and representatives from most Indiana districts. National and state candidates present included Len J E Watson Will K Wood Warren T McCray Hines Fubank Travis Bittman Davies and other officials. Also present were numerous county chairs newspaper men and district visitors including Auditor MacFolan and Surveyor.
