Public Utilities Commission approves raised telephone rates

The Public Service Commission issued a decision on telephone rates citing higher charges for business and residential lines and a new rural rate. The commission increased business rate to 2.25, residential to 1.50, and rural to 1.50, with 75 cent per month fees for owners of certain lines. prompt payment by the 15th avoids extra charges. The plant value was listed around 25,705 to 27,000, with added costs for depreciation and lost income. Critics say service was poor and wages for operators deserved higher pay, while the commission asserts a public protection motive and implies the company could raise rates further unless service improves.
