Fatal Accident Ends Young Eckbert Woods Life
Eckbert Woods died at 10:00 p.m. in a Rensselaer hospital after an accidental shooting during a hunting trip with friend Howard Putt. A misfire while handling a .44 gun while crossing a ditch struck Woods on the right side of the head, causing a brain wound. He passed away before a Chicago surgeon could reach him. Funeral held at Christian Church with many relatives from nearby towns attending. Woods, born August 28, 1907, moved from Culver to White County then Brook, Newton County. He was a Church of Christ member, well known for his brightness and industry, leaving parents, a brother, grandparents, and many friends.
