Sudden Death Shocks West Brook Community

Mrs. Webb Sell died suddenly at her West Brook home on a Thursday morning. Despite prior heart disease she appeared well. Mr. Sell sought assistance with Mrs. Enton, but Mrs. Sell was found in the bathroom. Indications suggest death occurred without a struggle. The Sells, long-time Growk residents, were active in local affairs and are mourned by husband, daughter Ars, Quince Hood, and son Roy.

Funeral of William Weston in Brook Church

The funeral for the late William Henry Weston was held at the M E Church on Friday afternoon. He lived in Brook since 1889 and left a wife Jane, two children Henry Weston and Mrs. Oren Maple, plus nine grandchildren and several stepchildren. Born in England in 1845, he immigrated at eleven, farmed in Illinois, moved to Indiana, and died November 24 1920 after a long illness. Burial was in Brook Cemetery.

Beaver City Woman Hangs Self

Last Saturday Beaver City reported the death of Mrs. Wm. Bassett of that village. It is believed she may have been in poor health for some time. Mr. Bassett and their children were away when they returned to find her hanging herself by a wire on the stairway.

Confectionery and News Stand Sold to CN Berlin

Last Friday the B. M. James Confectionery and News Stand was invoiced and sold to CN Berlin, who has taken possession. Negotiations had been pending for some time and were not concluded until Friday. Mr Janns says he has not yet decided what he will do, chair H Templin will continue his Shot Shining business.

Red Cross Roll Call Progress in Brook Branch

The Brook Branch of the American Red Cross reports $253.73 collected so far in the Roll Call and notes more funds are still arriving. Citizens are urged to contribute at the Library for credit toward the relief effort.

Surprise party honors Brook residents at Clark home

On Tuesday evening last the Rebekahs visited Mr and Mrs H M Clark uninvited but received warmly. They expressed appreciation for the couple’s service to the lodge and planned for their continued presence in Brook. Games followed by refreshments concluded a pleasant social gathering.

Morocco beat Kentland 14 to 0 as Red Ringer kicked goals and Milligan scored touchdowns in a lively Thanksgiving weekend game. The bride has lived in Brook and spent time in Rennselaer and Watseka earning recognition with her grandmother Mrs Madison ityah. The groom is a stone road roller operator with strong business prospects. A shower and luncheon for the bride followed by gifts from guests. The couple have many well wishes from Brook and vicinity.

Deer taken by locals return from Michigan

Frank Kennedy and F Little brought home a deer and Paul Hanson of Brook in the northern Michigan hunt. Hanson expected his deer for the Thanksgiving spread. Deer were reported plentiful in northern Michigan and Wisconsin. Note: name correction Victor Borklund replaces Paul Hanson.
