Elrod Furniture at Sweetwater launches a large fall stock clearance sale to convert surplus furnishings into cash. The store also runs a Friendship Contest inviting shoppers to support contestant friends and help them become popular in the country.
Clifford Leddy of San Angelo has purchased the Garrison shoe shop in Sweetwater and assumes control. His brother M. L. Leddy has long operated in San Angelo, and Clifford has previously collaborated with him in the boot and shoe business. The Leddys are well known in local trade.
In San Angelo Texas on October 19 1937 the Soil Conservation Service notes cooperators in the upper Concho area show good yields of wheat oats cotton milo sorghums and native grasses. Terraced and contour practices boosted cotton and pasture yields with double feed crops and richer cured grass compared with last year. Local farmers Rex Veribest Wink Wall Sanders Brooks and Bell report notable bale counts and pasture improvements amid drought conditions.
In Sweetwater Clifford Leddy operates a boot and shoe repair shop and harness repairs. The ad promises reliable work and invites locals to call on him, noting he is a pleasant gentleman to transact business with.
Bell notes reseeding and temporary pastures improve moisture use while removing undesired vegetation. He cautions soil moisture is not yet sufficient for last winter weed growth and 50 percent more cured grass is needed for livestock and erosion control. Milhollin says the year brings exceptionally good yields and maximum soil moisture conservation under the complete program.
About 25 girls are employed on National Youth Administration work projects in Brown County. The program provides jobs and training for young women, supporting local community efforts and youth employment during the period.
Messrs L T Youngblood KK C Rawlings and Frank Keeney attended the Buchanan Dam dedication services at Llano Saturday. They report the dam is a gigantic structure almost too large to conceive until seen. A large crowd was in attendance.
Ben Jackson district supervisor reports to State Youth Director J C Kellam about an NYA Community Center in Brownwood. Youths employed in the NYA sewing room will design and make furnishings for the Center, with Brown County youths eligible for supervised work and recreation activities.
