Judge R C Crane of Sweetwater writes to D M West in Bronte 1938 recalling a Star Telegram epitaph about a man who drank beer. He notes a West Texas souvenir theme and shares a memory line about the bier that claimed his bones under a stone.
Mrs. W. L. Hayley of Norton writes about beer ads in the local paper. She recalls growing up in Old Runnels and Coke counties and states beer is a stepping stone to anger, affirming the paper’s liquor stance.
Calvin Roberson of Ballinger announces candidacy for sheriff of Runnels County. A native West Texan, he cites community growth, debt repayment plans, and commitment to law and order. He asks Western voters for support and vows to serve one term if elected.
