Dr Geo W Cox of the Texas State Health reports typhoid death rates have fallen nationally to 2.1 per 100000, but Texas remains higher at 6.5. He attributes progress to understanding the germ and control measures while stressing rural areas need household action and immunization to near elimination.
The Texas Highway Department reports growth in state highway mileage from 18 084 to 21 870 miles. It highlights improved maintenance standards, increased signage with 130 000 signs, reflectorization progress, center stripe and shoulder stabilization work, bridge upgrades, reflector buttons on guard posts, and efficient mail box support installations reducing ongoing maintenance.
