Prof and Mrs Hankins of Lubbock visited Bronte on Monday, greeting former students and inspecting the new auditorium and gym. Hankins once directed Bronte schools from 1931 to 1933 before returning to farming near Lubbock.
Last week in Austin the Senate committee debated a bill to repeal race track gambling as supporters argued it harms Texas morality while opponents mocked the claims. Senator Nelson of Lubbock cited a case of a man who gambled and died by suicide, urging the audience to see the ruin from legal betting. The committee recommended the measure for passage as proponents claim it would spare Texans from shame and death linked to gambling and liquor.
The Enterprise urges caution around stopped school buses loading or unloading children. It notes it may be illegal to pass a bus in that situation and emphasizes safety, warning drivers to proceed with extreme care.

Members of the sixth grade enjoyed a reading field meet last Thursday to boost rapid reading and accuracy. Winners include Coy McNeill first in the 400 Yard Dash, a tie for second between David Gulley and Mitchell Robinson, Georgia Faye Henry third. Mitchell Robinson won the Mile Run with Coy McNeill second.
Primary pupils spent the week on Easter art projects and enjoyed an Easter egg hunt on campus Friday afternoon. Winners receiving prizes included Jon McNeill, Calvin Bryan, Georgia Faye Henry, and Onita Faye Wilson.
Pupils at North Norton School will take standardized tests starting April 19 during the school week. County Superintendent E. C. Grindstaff announced the plan after noting the school's strong county performance last year. The school achieved standardization last year and has met physical requirements this year.
