The second annual Coke County Fair drew over 1200 attendees Friday and Saturday at the Robert Lee School gym. It showcased 325 exhibits with 250 in the Adult and 75 in the Youth divisions, judged by local and regional specialists.
The Bronze Longhorns travel to Menard to meet the Yellowjackets in District A action. Menard has yet to win a game in their three 1973 contests.
Billy Graham production Time to Run comes to Coke County with two 7 and 9 p.m. showings Oct 2 at Texas Theatre Bronte and Oct 3 at Alamo Theatre Robert Lee. Tickets available at local churches. Dr. Graham calls for family focus and Jesus as answer to modern dilemmas.
The Band Boosters Club meets Monday at 7 30 pm in the Band Hall. All members and others interested in the band program are invited to attend as the drive continues inviting community members to join and support the Bronte Longhorn Band.
Singing Winds Golf Course will close for winter overseeding and reopen on October 1. The temporary shutdown affects course operations while greens are reseeded for the upcoming season.
Funeral services for Elroy Chapman 39 were held Wednesday at Central Baptist Church with Rev. M. E. Patterson officiating. He died Monday night while en route to a hospital after falling ill at work. Chapman, born June 9 1934 in Easton La, was a Navy Korea War veteran and worked for Union Texas Petroleum. He is survived by his wife Belva Louise Longnecker, a son Dave two daughters Tamara Louise and Rhonda, his father Artelon Chapman, a sister and three brothers. Pallbearers included Elroy Butler Dwein Pruitt Jack Geist Larry Robinson Bill Jackson Harold Snelt.
Sorosi Study Club and 69 Study Club push ahead with the Fairview Cemetery project for 1973 74. They began last year raising funds for shrubs and improvements and will prep ground this fall and winter. Contact J B Mackey secretary treasurer for donations or transfer to the Cemetery Association.
Richard Dodson, Drivers License Patrolman, will be in the county on Monday October 15 due to holidays October 8 and 22. In November he will be at regular times the second and fourth Mondays.
The Fisher Bros Circus brings Congo the 20 foot long elephant and a full performance lineup to town for two shows at 6 and 8 p.m. Oct. 9. Lions Club sponsors advance tickets at 1.00. circus office prices are 1.50 children 2.00 adults. Advance sales aid community projects.
Coke County commissioners vote to merge Election Precinct No. 4 at Tennyson into Precinct No. 5 in Bronte to meet the 100 voter minimum under Senate Bill No. 11. The change also aligns Justice of the Peace precincts with Commissioners precincts, with elections at Bronte School and Noah Pruitt Sr. as presiding judge.
A new nurse, Frank Zertuche, joins Bronte Hospital staff. He regularly works at Shannon Hospital in San Angelo and volunteers two nights per week in Bronte. Zertuche is a retired Air Force captain.
Mrs B F Bridges and Mrs Verdis Fancher visited Portales New Mexico last weekend. Mrs Fancher attended to business matters while Mrs Bridges visited relatives.
