Homecoming week features a parade, program and meeting, a 6 30 p m catered dinner, and the Jim Ned Bronte football game at night with half time activities. Miss Jolene Vaughn the queen is crowned with Lindie and other queens noted among festivities.
Bronte honors the 1959 Bronte Longhorn football squad at halftime with plans for a parade and program. Stateing the team went undefeated in the regular season but lost 40 to 14 to Wink Wild Cats in bi district play. The event features 15 squad members confirmed to attend, along with Coach Howard and other alumni. The parade begins at 1 p.m. and includes the Longhorn Band and riding club participants, followed by a 3 30 p.m. program in the elementary school auditorium led by Rev. Johnny Smith.
Bronte Evening Lions Club and Band Boosters hailed a highly successful Fall Festival at Bronte Schools with a large crowd and strong profits. Three class queens were crowned for most money raised: Jolene Vaughn high school queen, Kim Arrrott junior high queen, and Lindie Butler elementary queen. Escorts ranged from Dana Sowell to Jim Dan Raughton and Brian Champion. Booths filled the old gym, Mexican supper drew steady support from 6 to 8.
Coke County residents can gain an extra hour of sleep as Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend. The official change occurs at 2 a.m. on the last Sunday in October, but clocks may be set back before bedtime Saturday night, returning to Central Standard Time and giving early risers more morning light while reducing evening daylight by one hour.
Bronte residents Mrs Marie Brady Mills and Mrs H C Murtishaw were elected and installed as state secretary and fellow LVNA members at the Texas Licensed Vocational Nurses Association annual convention in San Antonio October 16 19. Division 58 members from Bronte Robert Lee Ballinger Winters and Wingate attended along with Mrs Martha McAlister and Mrs Lottie Farris.
Coke County Farm Bureau will hold its annual convention Tuesday October 28 at 7 p.m. in the Bronte School lunchroom. Refreshments will be served and a business meeting held. All Farm Bureau members and others interested in Farm Bureau work are urged to attend.
Supt C B Barbee says Bronte School trustees want citizen recommendations for two new trustees to replace Harold Moon and Conda Richards who resigned. Selections likely at the regular November meeting. Citizens may contact the superintendent or any board member with suggestions.
Jim Ned travels to Bronte for a 7 30 p m district 7 B homecoming clash. Both teams are 1 loss with 108 points for and against and tight Big Country ratings. Other 7 B games include Trent at Loraine and Hawley at Forsan as district play opens.
