Revival services at the Bronte Methodist Church start Thursday Oct 29 and run through Sunday in November. Rev R L Flowers and wife from Atascosa will conduct 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. services daily with a 6 p.m. covered dish supper opening the event. Rev J E Fuller invites the public to attend.
The Robert Lee grade school team comes to the local field for their season opener next Tuesday at 7 30 p m. The game marks the first contest of the season for the local squad and will be played on the home field.
Marvin Eugene Whitaker and Robert L. Everhardt both 19 from Alger Ohio admitted assaulting H C Murtishaw last week. They are held in San Angelo on Tom Green County charges of stealing an automobile. Murtishaw recovers from head injuries after the beating with a pop bottle. The suspects were arrested in San Angelo shortly after the attempted robbery here.
Word from Korea says Bobby Scott, son of Mrs. Ara Scott, will be discharged soon at Fort Bliss in El Paso. He will be greeted there by his cousin Delbert Coulson, who is en route for induction and will also go to Fort Bliss.
Bronte Longhorns beat Hobbs Panthers 14 to 6 at Hobbs after scoring on a 33 yard drive early. Denton bull rushed for the first TD, Stevenson to Johnny Smith added a late score, and Hobbs tallied a late 10 yard pass for pride. The Longhorns out gained Hobbs 264 rushing yards to 39. They head to Loraine tonight seeking a third straight win. Robert Lee’s Steers face Hermleigh after a 20-18 loss to Loraine.
Round Top Oil Co and Norton Properties plan a 6000 foot wildcat four miles northeast of Bronte on a 300 acre lease. The No. Norton Properties well is 1 1/8 miles southwest of Stanolind Oil & Gas No. 2 Norton Properties, abandoned May 30 after reaching 5775 feet, with tops logged at Cisco 2032, Canyon 4038, Palo Pinto 4443, Strawn 4724, Goen 4939, Gardner 5218, Odum 5377, Ellenburger 5543. The well showed oil in the Odum limestone but did not become a commercial producer.
Mr and Mrs John Leathers of Seminole visited here part of the week.
J. B. Mackey was named president of the Bronte Ex Students Association at a Saturday night meeting after the homecoming banquet held with about 200 attendees. E. F. Glenn was succeeded as president. officers include Mrs D K Glenn as vice president Mrs R W Rees secretary and Mrs Virginia Boecking treasurer. The event recognized long-time ex students Monroe McCutchen and Forrest Clark who attended the first school in 1877 and Theron Tidwell who traveled 350 miles.
