State employees push for 17 percent raise and benefits
The Texas Employees Association outlines a 1971 legislative program seeking a three step raise totaling 10.2 percent next September and 6.8 percent the following September plus a 3.4 percent merit raise for half the staff. They request a $10 monthly career incentive after three years rising to $60 for 30 years service, plus pension benefits of 50 percent of base pay after 30 years. Travel allowances would rise to $16 daily and 12 cents a mile.
