Local youths Tommy Lee and Johnny Scott spied a rattler crossing the street Monday night and killed the seven-rattler reptile near the Ogles home. Residents warn of more snakes in the area as reports of others being killed by neighbors emerge.
Graveside rites for Miss Kate Smith 73 formerly of Bronte were held at Fateview cemetery Sunday afternoon with Rev G Robert Grimes and Rev George Ricker officiating. She died 9 30 am Saturday at Baptist Memorial Hospital San Angelo after an extended illness. She was born June 4 1886 in Post Oak Montague County and lived in San Angelo seven years. Survivors include sisters Annie L Hageman Geraldine Johnson and Julian Howell and brothers R L Smith Sr and O W Smith. Nephews served as pallbearers.
The Church of Christ has installed two 100000 Btu winter air conditioners in rear storage rooms. Fully automatic thermostatically controlled units will push warm air into the auditorium and return via grills at the front. Deacon C. Bruon says they will provide even, comfortable heat throughout the building during winter.
Mr and Mrs Clarence Hartman of San Angelo were guests Sunday of last week of Mr and Mrs T D Joplin and family.
A graduation exercise for 13 Bronte Hospital employees will take place Monday at 7:30 PM at Kickapoo Baptist Church. The graduates will receive vocational nurse diplomas after completing over a year of study under Dr. John R. Harris and instructors. The graduates must pass state board exams around mid October for licensure. the public is invited.
The Bronte Volunteer Fire Department elected a new slate for the coming year at a Monday night meeting. T D Joplin is the new fire chief with E J Smith as first assistant and James Tidwell as second assistant. Bill Thomas becomes president with Bill Luckett as secretary and Eddie Alexander as treasurer. The group also named Richard Miller and Nealy Mackey along with Jimmy Brunson and Ronnie Cole to the refreshment committee. Mrs Ruth Spencer returned home from a visit in San Angelo with her daughters and their families.
The Bronze Longhorns defeated Santa Anna 26 to 12 on their opponent's field last Friday. The local team, now hosting a Colorado City B squad Thursday, looks to rebound as several players were sidelined by injuries.
