Austin health officer Dr. Geo W. Cox warns winter illnesses rival summer complaints in danger to babies and young kids. He cites influenza, tonsillitis, pneumonia, bronchitis, asthma, and diphtheria when not immunized as serious risks, stressing prevention, medical supervision, and limiting contact with sick individuals.
Sweetwater Texas November 18 1943 Lt Patricia Nicolai says WACs are being trained in two army finance schools to assume non combatant duties. After a 10 week course they join active duty sections and free male soldiers for combat. WAC roles include payrolls interviews records and mail handling among 155 jobs. Town women may obtain WAC information and application blanks at the Municipal Building Sweetwater.
Cpl Jeptho R Knierim graduates from the B 24 Liberator bomber mechanics school at Keesler Field Biloxi Mississippi after about 17 weeks training in servicing heavy bombers fuel electrical and hydraulic systems instruments and engines The final phase included eight days at Fort Liberator field tests and mock combat He now heads for active duty or further training in aircraft maintenance or gunnery schools
