Bronte residents report only about 0.5 inch of rain in the past week since Thursday. Two showers Sunday night and Monday brought the total to roughly half an inch. The season totals exceed 15 inches, aiding crops. no severe weather or floods have affected the area, with only minor hail damage east of town weeks ago.
Oscar Dorsey announced seven Troop 152 members will attend Camp Sol Mayer this summer for a week from Bronte School at noon on Sunday June 9. Scoutmaster R. C. Huntley and J. W. Teague accompany them. return June 16. Medical certificates from a doctor are required and available at the John Harris Clinic.
Bronte's main drag is quiet with the Enterprise as the only open business. The paper plans extended closing through Friday morning. A reminder that Arthur Silas, veteran service officer for Tom Green Irion and Coke counties, was to address Legion veterans, with notices mailed by Legion Adjutant H. O. Whitt. The column includes light musings on do it yourself tips, farm weather, oats prospects, and a note about B. B. Edminston and Ella Allen Edminston publishing Rhythm and Rhyme from Stamps Baxter.
The Bronte Enterprise office will be closed Friday for a holiday while observance of Memorial Day keeps the paper from closing Thursday. Publishing schedules required the newspaper to take today off instead.
Bill Wrinkle a Bronte Longhorn star signed a letter of intent to attend Texas Tech on a football scholarship this fall. He lettered four years, moved from line to fullback in 1956, earned all district and all region honors in 1955, and graduated among 19 seniors last Friday night.
The Rev and Mrs Lin Loeffler and Mr and Mrs C Q Richards left early Monday to attend the Dual Conference in San Antonio. Richards was elected lay delegate from the First Methodist Church of Bronte with Mrs Richards as alternate. Meetings continue and will close at noon today after appoint ments read. Loeffler returns Sunday with sermon The Secret of True Greatness.
A large crowd used the County Park pool with 1514 admissions through Wednesday night averaging about 79.68 daily. Denman, the park caretaker, reports 730 season passes 118 adult tickets and 666 student tickets with 90 season passes sold for 5 dollars. Lifeguard Richard Wayne Rees will attend a Red Cross course in Ardmore Oklahoma for ten days to earn a Senior Lifesaving Certificate. Denman attended a San Angelo pool operators school last week. The pool operates weekdays 2 to 8 pm except Wednesday 7 pm and Sunday 1 30 to 5 30 pm.
Ben D Snead of Bronte will be among more than 800 candidates for degrees at Texas Tech commencement in Jones Stadium at 8 p m Monday June 3 He will earn a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance Snead is son of Mr and Mrs B D Snead Bronte A Convair vice president August C Esenwein of Fort Worth will deliver the principal address and Dr Granville T Walker of University Christian Church Fort Worth will preach the baccalaureate sermon at 8 p m Sunday June 2 in Jones Stadium
Children of the community are invited to attend the annual Methodist Bible School beginning next Monday at 8 30 a m A new feature is the Intermediate Department meeting 6 30 to 8 30 each evening The school runs through Friday with a closing picnic and open house for parents and visitors Staff includes Mmes Bill Thomas J Murti shaw Conda Richards Luther McCutchen Barney Modgling Mrs Vera Thomas Binks McCutchen Royce Lee I C Oden Joe Rawlings T F Sims Sr Lin Loeffler C E Arrott Carroll Robbins and others.
Certificates of award were given at year end for the top student in each class. Seniors Joy Wilkins and Bobby Hester led with 97.6 and 94.6. Juniors Wanda Kirkland and Robert L. Moore scored 96 and 94. Sophomores Epsie Jo Hagerman and Albert Grace earned 94.6 and 83.5. Freshman Darell Dixon and Reyes Olivas topped their class with 93.5 and 94.
Mr and Mrs Warnock Hipp Jr of Hobbs New Mexico were Bronte Visitors weekend before last. the note records their hospitality and visit among regional social happenings.
William L. Wynne of San Angelo earns a citation from American Home Magazine for a 12 350 dollar three bedroom center hall brick home at 2735 Southwestern Ave College Hills. The home features 1 110 square feet of living space, an evaporative cooler, accordion doors and a spacious back yard. Open house runs 2 to 9 p m today and 2 to 6 p m daily next week with public voting to determine the best Texas home for the money.
