Sam Seay and wife Alva Landers manage a 1000 acre farm 5 miles east of town. The operation includes 786 acres owned, 300 cultivated, 100 head of cows reduced to 35 with 20 heifers. The herd is Hereford and the land features terracing and stock tanks for conservation.
May records show multiple admissions and discharges including Mrs J R Wallace James E Thompson Tommy Thomas and Mrs J C Baugh admitted on various dates with others dismissed. Notable death of Mrs Ida McCleskey and a San Marcos couple visiting Bronte for Coke County homecoming events.
Four Blackwell High School seniors Wayne Estes Glenn Williamson Marie Johnson Melba Chew left Friday for a two week trip visiting Arizona New Mexico Colorado Utah and other western states. Other local notes include awards at school and community visits by families and students. Betty Sweet earned the Euterpean award with a 93.40 average and Good Citizenship honors went to Betty Sweet and Wayne King.
Theron E. Tidwell will receive a Bachelor of Science in agricultural education at Texas Tech commencement on June 2. James Robert Evans will be a candidate for a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering. Evans has ROTC commission and is serving six months with the Army at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. More than 800 students will graduate in Tech’s class of 1958, including 116 in agriculture and 235 in engineering.
Mrs R C Lasswell is a candidate for the Bachelor of Science degree at Hardin Simmons University Abilene The baccalaureate is Sunday June 1 and commencement Monday June 2 at First Baptist Church Abilene Also note: Mr and Mrs W D McDonald left last Saturday for a vacation trip visiting the John R Harris family in Albuquerque and the Grand Canyon and other western points.
Wayne King and June White were recognized as top figures, with Melba Chew named highest senior girl and Glenn Williamson the highest senior boy.
Miss Jeanette McDaniel bride elect of Don Glenn was honored at a seated bridal shower Saturday in the First Methodist Church parlor. About sixty guests attended with orchid and white decorations, gifts, and a punch service. The couple will wed June 22 at the church. Also reported were injuries from a mower accident to Mrs. Otis Smith and a hand injury to Mrs. Bob Allen.
Mrs K M Cook and two children traveled from Snyder to visit her parents Mr and Mrs M G Gilreath and to attend the funeral services for Miss Bertie Richards.
