As the Enterprise went to press a good rain fell with lightning and winds. Counties reported wide rainfall totals from Bronte 1.4 inches to Edith and Lance 1.5 to 2 inches, with Tennyson at about half an inch. Farmers planned to plant feed and cotton, expecting pasture improvement from the moisture.
Three Bronte natives Claude Ray Ash Donald LaMarr Whitt and Mrs Mary Sandusky Snyder earned BS degrees at Texas Technological College graduation ceremonies in Jones Stadium James Pinckney Hart Texas University Chancellor addressed the crowd while Dr Umphrey Lee SMU president delivered the Baccalaureate sermon Whitt a BS in electrical engineering will join Humble Oil Ash earned a BS in animal husbandry Snyder completed home economics and teaches now Elmer Snyder her husband serves on the West Coast in the U S Navy
A five pony carousel will visit Bronte on Friday June 1 from 2 30 to 4 30 p m offering free rides for children in downtown Bronte. The event is sponsored by San Angelo Horse Show and Rodeo officials with Roy Neff in charge of the ponies.
Members gathered Friday for a covered dish supper marking the club’s last meeting of the year. A brief business session was led by president Mrs. Noel Percifull. The gathering was hosted at Mrs. KR T Caperton’s home with several members in attendance.
Local residents shared visits with relatives across the region including Pete Cook Randal Meador Cyn thia of Abilene and LaMarr Chapman of Odessa. Many attended graduation exercises at Texas Tech in Lubbock and Bronte seniors joined the summer session at Texas Tech while others planned trips to Waco Dallas and Lubbock.
George Scott post of the American Legion will observe Memorial Day next Wednesday in May 1980 with a 6 30 pm parade from the depot led by the Bronte High School band proceeding to the cemetery. A single grave will be decorated to honor all fallen servicemen, with a ceremony including prayer, a veteran tribute, The Star Spangled Banner, a salute, and taps.
About 100 members of the J. K. Buford family and relatives gathered at Santa Fe Park in San Angelo for an all-day reunion. Attendees included Burl Buford and Ernest Buford from Mc Camey and Lubbock respectively, plus out-of-town relatives from Los Angeles, Robert Lee, Wichita Falls, Bronte, and other communities. Grandchildren and great grandchildren joined kin from Ker mit, Mertzon, Bis Lake, Jal, New Mexico, Freeport, Alpine, and Sam Arelo.
Mrs. AL J Chambers of Dallas visits Blackwell as guest of Mr. and Mrs. Dabney. Local families host relatives from Dallas Abilene Snyder and Oklahoma. Blackwell 8 Bronze 7 in Friday game. Engagement announced between Bettye Jane Spence and Harold Ware with wedding planned at Blackwell Methodist Church June 3. Bettye Jane to graduate May 20. Harold Ware a lab tester at U S Gypsum in Sweetwater.
Mrs Harold Sims hosted the Bronte Jr WHO club gathering with Mrs Taylor Emerson presiding in the absence of the vice president. Mrs D L Estes led recreation. program featured straw bag making and furniture arrangement. Floating prize went to Mrs D J Estes. Present were Mines C E Arrots D K Glenn A N Rawlings W Hipp Buster Hester James Allen D L Estes Otis Smith the hostess and one visitor Mrs E L Caperton. The club will meet again in June with hostess Mrs Otis Smith.
About 32 eighth graders will attend Commencement in the high school auditorium Wednesday night. Judge Jeff Dean of Robert Lee will deliver the main address. Judy Anderson and Max Well lead the class with high averages.
Minister Heuben Stanley of San Angelo will deliver the baccalaureate sermon for Bronte High School's 1950 class. Commencement exercises follow next Friday, June 10, at Lovelock High School auditorium with honors including Neal Woods Vance Winn and Juanneta Coulson.
Pioneer couple J R Johnson and his wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at home with extensive family and friends. The event honored a marriage date of March 20, 1901 in Caldwell, featuring a two tier cake, gold decorations, and a commemorative poem read by Rev. DL PL Rev. A large gathering from many towns attended, reflecting decades of farming and family life.
Sunday evening service at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium features Rev. CL BL Powell delivering the baccalaureate sermon to ES Blackwell seniors. Tuesday May 29 at 8 p.m. marks the joint commencement with Walter Adarts of Abilene Christian College as main speaker.
Mrs Cumbie acted as WMU hostess for the Baptist WAES meeting held Monday at Mars Ko OB Cbie. The program theme was The Progress Baptist Women Have Maiden the Work for Mrs Signs, with Mrs Frank Keeney and Mrs Veron Proce presenting on covenants. Attendees included Aubrey Denman Frank Keeney Kate Cox and others as speakers from foreign fields. A color scheme of gold purple and white guided decorations and refreshments.
Res and Mrs Jo Be Puller travel Tuesday to San Antonio for the Southwest Texas Annual Conference from Wednesday to Sunday. Appointments will be read Sunday afternoon and no services will be held at the Methodist church that morning or evening. The Fuller family plans to return Sunday night.
Jamaica church members plan a Sunday afternoon fundraising event on a playground blocky Ponte street area if weather allows. An official notes it will be an old fashioned carnival with fooling and folk acts, aiming to finish the Bronte chapel project with remaining work hinted.
Sgt Floyd Murtishaw says he is back in Korea near Seoul with his company after a 30 day leave in Bronte Walterberg. He notes the war scene looks better than on his last leave and mentions expected visits from Mrs Horace and his parents.
Bhickwell members hosted their husbands for a chicken supper Friday night at the Shamblin home. Guests and hosts shared songs and games after dishes, with several couples and longtime partners noted among the attendees.
