The note explains a delay in this week's Enterprise due to a faulty Linotype machine. Production halted all day Thursday and delivery to readers was unavailable by the usual Friday morning time. The staff express hope to improve next week.
The Bronte High School mile relay team finished seventh at the UIL state meet in Austin last weekend. Team members were Paul Cervenka Nelson Coulter Marvin Ensor and Alan Barbee. They posted a time of 3 31 8.
The City of Bronte commends Gary York and his vocational agriculture boys for removing the old fence at Fairview Cemetery. Mayor R T Caperton praised their neat work and city residents’ support while the Sorosis Study Club and others fund a project to install a new cyclone fence around the cemetery.
Dr John R Harris noted J L Brunson volunteers to furnish a room at Bronte Hospital. Mr and Mrs Henry Raney plan to buy new furniture for the hospital. Federal inspectors spent two days there and were pleased with the operation. The hospital was okayed for Blue Cross Medicare and Medicaid patients.
Piano and organ pupils of Leroy Moore of Ballinger will perform Sunday May 18 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Winters. Moore teaches in Ballinger Winters and Bronte with six Bronte pupils taking part. Public invited.
Robert C. Adams is the new minister of the Bronte Church of Christ. Adams and his family have moved to Bronte and join the parsonage in the town’s east area. He replaces Melvin Placke who served since 1972. The Adams family includes four married children and Ron, a college freshman this fall.
Bronte School schedules senior baccalaureate at 8 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Grady Peters of First United Methodist Church delivering the sermon for 19 seniors. The eighth grade promotion follows on Thursday May 22 at 8 p.m. in the school auditorium with Rev. M E Patterson as speaker. Commencement for the senior class is set for Friday May 23 at 8 p.m. in the school auditorium. Darren Koenig leads eighth grade honors with 93.917 average. Becky Coalson is next with 92.417. Other class members listed include Suzanne Brunson and others.
Funeral services for Albert Thom as Grace Jr. 68 of Gordon were held at Gordon United Methodist Church with the Moran Masonic Lodge graveside rites. A World War II veteran and Lone Star Gas Co. employee for 23 years, he died May 8 at Ranger General Hospital after a short illness. He was born May 2, 1917, in Aledo New Mexico. Survivors include his wife Jackie Grace, a daughter Benny Corley, two sons Albert Grace III and Tommy Lee Grace, a step-daughter Jade Cook, four sisters, and four grandchildren plus step-grandchildren.
The Bronte Longhorns captured the 1975 Class B state championship at rain soaked Jimmy Clay Municipal Golf Course in Austin with a two day total of 700, eight strokes ahead of Roby. Wayne Alexander led individual play with 84-85-169 as Ricky Faught won the playoff for medalist.
Brenda Duckworth 17 of San Angelo is named a finalist for the Miss Texas Teen-Ager Pageant to be held May 30 31 at Clarendon Junior College. Contestants from across the state compete for the title with judging on scholarship leadership poise personality and beauty. There is no swim suit or talent portion.
A Scotch golf tournament will be held this Sunday at the local course starting at 1 30 p.m. All golfers are invited to participate.
City officials remind that Bronte peddlers must pay a $50 fee. Payment is due at city hall.
