Marvin Simpson and C M Byrd of Robert Lee along with J E Davis and Walter King of Blackwell completed ranch plans last week for 12 871 acres. Plan aims focus on range improvement, contour farming, cover crops, water systems, terraces, and cedar eradication to boost production amid drought risks. A farm pond on Jacob Morrow’s farm 66 miles northeast of Bronte was completed to better distribute livestock water as part of integrated soil and water management.
A water conservation plan is being pursued by a district cooperator with the Coke County Soil Conservation District and a member of the Kickapoo Conservation group. Last week 1,100 feet of diversions were completed on B. R. McCorley’s ranch, six miles southeast of Blackwell, to divert water from overfalls in eroded land and distribute it over a healthy grass flat.
