Outlook for New Crops Improving
Texas Extension Service agronomists report ongoing research on new crops for dry West Texas. Guar and sesame show promise as cash crops though each has drawbacks. Guar acts as a soil builder and may run with cotton rotations, while sesame benefits from a new combine variety though quality lags. Sorghum almum grass gains attention for its Argentine origin and Johnson grass crossovers, with seed costs and adaptation noted.
