Republicans Must Stay Out Demo Primary
In Texas the Democratic Party announces a new party affiliation rule to curb cross over voting. Voters who participate in the Democratic primary on May 7 will be stamped Democrat on poll tax receipts or exemption certificates, barring them from Republican party activities in the same year. State Democratic Chairman J. E. Connally explains the policy aims to keep voters within their own party and notes primary judges must stamp documents accordingly. Democrats say attending precinct conventions and holding party offices requires May 7 Democratic primary participation.
