PFC John W Wheat of Bronte Texas with Company I 39th Infantry Regiment was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge for exemplary conduct in action against the enemy in Germany. He also wears the European African Middle East Campaign Ribbon with one bronze star and is the son of Mr and Mrs John Preston Wheat Route 2 Bronte Texas.

The finance committee reported 2.10 from the last grab bag to be held for expenses. During social hour Mrs. Chas Keeney led a canned goods contest aligned with the canning program. Refreshments were served.
Thirteen members and one visitor enjoyed tea and salad with wafers at the meeting. The club welcomed Mrs. Jimmie Irwin of Colorado City as a visitor. The next gathering is set for July 18 with Mrs. B. F. Modgling as hostess.
James W Scott 18 1st class USNR of Bronte Texas took part in the initial attack on Okinawa aboard a destroyer in the Pacific He entered the Navy in August 1944 and is son of Mr and Mrs Walter Scott Bronte awaiting return to his dad s ranch.
The U S Marine Corps authorized enlisting 55 additional 17 year old men in June. Recruits join the Marine Reserves and serve for the duration. Enlistees go to boot camp immediately or within two weeks. Applicants should mail birth certificates to U S Marine Corps P O Box Lubhot Texas. Tom Price gains ground as a sunshine pal by advancing his subscription figures.
