Eastern Star installs Blackwell officers for year

Blackwell Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star installed officers for the coming year. Worthy Matron Mrs Clois Versup and Worthy Patron L W Sweet led a list of officers including Vera Bryant Charles Ragsdale Therrell Burwick and others. A salad supper followed. Numerous local residents visited relatives and attended events over the weekend. Funeral services were held for Mrs Wylie Hearn Sr of Durant Oklahoma.

Edwin McDaniel On Navy Duty Off Vietnam

Engineman Third Class Jack E. McDaniel USN son of Mr and Mrs James E McDaniel Bronte serves with Coastal Division 12 in Vietnam. The Swift Boats patrol coastal waters to prevent infiltration as part of Operation Market Time and probe junks sampans and other craft while providing gunfire support along the coast.

Services Held for Richard B. Byrd

Funeral services were held in Wayside, Armstrong County, for Richard Brown Byrd 66 who died June 20 in a Sacramento hospital after a long illness of lung cancer. The Rev. Roland Moore officiated. Byrd, born August 24 1902 in Robert Lee, was a retired farmer and rancher. Survivors include his wife Euphemia of Sacramento, five daughters, one brother, three sisters, 17 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Court Change Ends Property Vote Rule in Revenue Bond Elections

Secretary of State Martin Dies Jr said a recent U S Supreme Court ruling invalidates Texas limits on voting in revenue bond elections to property owners. The decision extends equal protection to all qualified voters and does not address tax bond elections. The report also notes Odessa visitors Mr Paul Gathings Mrs Carroll Leathers and Mrs Rob Herron visiting relatives.

S W C D Members Tour Robert Lee Dam Meeting

Members of the West Texas Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts meet in Coke County Monday for a tour of Robert Lee Dam and E. V. Spence Reservoir. The Coke County SC&WCD hosts at the county park with a 10 am start and a Dutch treat lunch.
